Stuart Armstrong to miss Crystal Palace clash issue to injury

Stuart Armstrong will miss Southampton’s season-opening game against Crystal Palace this weekend after picking up an injury on international duty, as per Tom Leach of Hampshire Live.

The Scottish midfielder was substituted off in the 80th minute of Scotland’s 2-1 win over the Czech Republic earlier this week with an injury, and that injury will keep him out of the trip to Selhurst Park at the weekend.

Given the shortened off-season, there was always a major risk of players picking up injuries during the international break and unfortunately for Southampton and for Armstrong, they are the unlucky parties who have been impacted.

Saints still have enough quality to beat Crystal Palace without the Scotsman, but he does offer something a little bit different in terms of goals from midfield, so with him missing, there’ll be more pressure on Danny Ings to deliver the goods in front of goal.
