Southampton linked with move for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun

The Beautiful Game Podcast have named Southampton as one of the numerous interested parties in Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun.

Saints are amongst a host of clubs linked with the 19-year-old, who looks certain to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Ralph Hassenhuttl faces plenty of competition for the talented striker as the likes of Bundesliga clubs Stuttgart, Werder Bremen, and Eintracht Frankfurt have shown an interest, as have Brighton & Hove Albion.

Balogun has come through the ranks at Arsenal and is seemingly held in high regard by the coaching staff at the club, however, he may be allowed to leave as he goes in search of the first-team action he craves.

It is unlikely that the USA-born striker will be allowed to leave on the cheap though, with the Gunners demanding a reported £8 million for the man who is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

That is a high price given Balogun’s lack of senior football, although his 34 goals and seven assists in 33 appearances in the 2019/20 U18 Premier League season may just convince a few suitors he is worth the asking price.

Whether Saints are one of those teams is debatable, but we’d guess that it won’t be the South Coast club stumping up £8m for an unproven forward player, given that Hassenhuttl has the likes of Danny Ings, Che Adams, Shane Long and Michael Obafemi at his disposal.
