Southampton should be looking to take advantage of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s connections as Yussuf Poulsen has requested to leave RB Leipzig.
According to Sport Bild, Poulsen wants to seal a summer transfer away from the German club and has told them that he wants to leave.
The report claims that Newcastle, Everton and West Ham are interested in the striker, so should Southampton be as well?
Southampton have not been linked with the forward yet, but it is a deal that could make plenty of sense if they joined the race.
Shane Long is out of contract at the end of the season and Che Adams has been heavily linked with a move away from the club. This means that, potentially, Southampton could be down by two strikers heading into the 2020/21 campaign.
If this is the case, Southampton could do worse than pursuing a deal for Poulsen, given that he is eager to leave Leipzig and is interested in a move to England. He is a player that Ralph Hasenhuttl already knows and has worked with, due to his time at Leipzig before arriving at Southampton.
Hasenhuttl spent two years managing Poulsen in the Bundesliga, with the forward making an incredible 71 appearances in that time. This shows that Hasenhuttl had faith in the forward and felt that he was reliable enough to be a regular starter.
So, with Poulsen pushing for a move to England and Southampton possibly being short of strikers, it could make sense for Hasenhuttl to make the most of his Leipzig connections and bring the Danish international to the club. If they do not make a move, though, then they could see their rivals snap him up.
