Football Manager backs Southampton to sign Benrahma from Brentford

While plenty of people are still wondering how the current 2019/20 season will be completed, we can still look to the future and wonder how things will turn out for Southampton.

We ran a simulation on Football Manager 2020 to see what Southampton looked like 10 years in the future. One very interesting thing we noticed was that Southampton signed Said Benrahma in the summer of 2021 for £16.5m.

It appears as though Crystal Palace signed Benrahma from Brentford, with Southampton then bringing him in from Selhurst Park to bolster their own squad.

So, what if Southampton did sign Benrahma?

He could be an outstanding signing for the club given his form for Brentford in recent years. In the last two Championship seasons combined, Benrahma has contributed 20 goals and 21 assists in 59 starts – an incredible return for the Algerian playmaker.

Benrahma is also only 24 and heading into the peak years of his career, suggesting that he could develop and improve further as a player. He could add a goalscoring and creative threat to Southampton’s team and is capable of playing on either wing or in the number 10 position, offering flexibility to Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Algerian international is creating 2.2 chances per game for Brentford, along with 3.1 dribbles, and this is more than any Southampton player has managed in either category, which suggests he could be a worthy addition to the team.
