Southampton could solve their issues at right-back this summer as they eye up a move for Olympiacos defender Omar Elabdellaoui.
Greek outlet SDNA report that the Saints are interested in signing the right-back and are able to speak to him now in order to agree a possible pre-contract deal.
Elabdellaoui is out of contract at the end of the season and is currently free to speak to any interested parties ahead of leaving on a free in the summer.
Signing the Norweigan international defender could help to fill a gap for Ralph Hasenhuttl ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
As of this moment, Yan Valery will be Southampton’s only senior right-back heading into next season, representing an area of the squad in which the club could look to strengthen.
If they can bring Elabdellaoui to the club on a free transfer then they could provide competition in the right-back spot, potentially helping Valery to push on and improve himself.
With Elabdellaoui also available for no transfer fee, it could also be a shrewd addition for the Saints on the financial side of things, as the club would not need to spend a huge transfer fee to sign him.
Elabdellaoui also has prior experience of English football. He started his career at Manchester City, making the bench on a few occasions, and made eight Premier League appearances for Hull on loan in the 2016/17 season. This means that it may take less time for him to adapt to life in England than other signings from abroad.
