Southampton need to cash in on Guido Carrillo this summer with Boca Juniors reportedly eyeing up a summer swoop for the forward.
According to TodoMercadoWeb, Boca Juniors are interested in signing Carrillo from Southampton at the end of the season.
The report, however, does not mention how much Southampton want for Carrillo or Leganes’ stance on the situation.
Carrillo is currently on loan to Leganes in Spain and has struggled to perform consistently in La Liga this season. The striker has one goal and two assists in 20 appearances for Leganes and failed to score in his first 18 games of the campaign.
If Boca Juniors do make a concrete offer for Carrillo, Southampton need to accept it and cash in on him whilst they still can. With Carrillo’s awful record in Spain, it could be difficult for Southampton to find other suitors for the Argentine as it could be a huge risk for any team given his lack of form.
Southampton paid £19m for Carrillo to sign him from Monaco but the club need to accept that they are going to need to take a massive hit on that in order to sell him. Since joining Southampton, Carrillo has scored seven goals in 59 league appearances for the Saints and Leganes combined.
This is the form of a £3m striker, not one worth £19m, and that is why Southampton need to be flexible with their price and accept an offer from Boca as long as it is not ridiculously low. If they can get Carrillo off the wage bill and bring in a fee for him, it could also open up space in the squad for Ralph Hasenhuttl to make another signing.
