Southampton should be looking to sell Guido Carrillo on a permanent deal after he admitted he was hurt by the club last summer.
Carrillo said that Southampton delayed allowing him to re-join Leganes on loan, despite him having already made a decision on his future.
Speaking to AS, Carrillo said:
It’s true, that hurt me, but it was merely a decision of the English team.
I already had the decision to come to Leganes. I said my bit, but the Southampton leaders didn’t want to let me out until the last day.
It is clear from Carrillo’s comments that he wants to be at Leganes and Southampton already have a plethora of attacking options at their disposal already. This means that allowing Carrillo to sign for the club on a permanent deal could be Southampton’s best option in the summer.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has Danny Ings, Michael Obafemi, Shane Long, Che Adams and Nathan Redmond, who are all capable of playing up front.
We feel as if Southampton have no need for another forward option, particularly one who has scored just once in La Liga this season for Leganes in 20 appearances.
Selling Carrillo on a permanent basis could also take some money off the wage bill heading into the transfer window. This could then allow the Saints to reinvest that money in other areas of the squad that may need strengthening, given that Hasenhuttl has the aforementioned strikers already in his squad.
It could, however, depend on whether or not Leganes want to sign Carrillo on a permanent deal or if they are able to afford him. Neither of those variables have been accounted for so far and this could put a deal in doubt, as Carrillo would have to find a new club if Leganes are unable to sign him.
