Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters has explained the influence that Ralph Hasenhuttl had on his decision to join the club, which bodes well for the summer transfer window.
Walker-Peters says that Hasenhuttl’s decision to ring him personally, added to the fact that the manager already knew everything about the player, impressed him.
Hasenhuttl’s knowledge and hands-on approach seemingly sealed the deal for the Saints, with Crystal Palace said to be Walker-Peters’s other potential desination.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Walker-Peters said:
[It was] The style of play and the manager.
I spoke to him before I came, and he almost knew me better than I knew me which shows his interest in me.
For him to take the time to call me was enough for me. I didn’t know he was picky so that makes me even happier.
He knows what I’m good at and what type of player I am. I think his style compliments me.
These comments could be a huge boost for Southampton heading into the summer transfer window. Hasenhuttl has shown that he is capable of persuading players to sign for the club and that he knows how to deal with potential signings in regards to the process of tempting them to join.
It worked perfectly with Walker-Peters and he could deploy similar tactics in the upcoming window.
Hasenhuttl’s approach could also help Southampton to sign Walker-Peters permanently in the summer if they decide to make an offer for the Spurs defender. Walker-Peters is clearly impressed with the Saints bass and, therefore, could be tempted to stay at the club in the long-term.
Hopefully, Hasenhuttl will be able to use his charm to add further quality to the Saints squad in the summer. Having previously managed in the Bundesliga, she could potentially use his knowledge of the players in Germany to convince them to come over to England and be a part of his project at St. Mary’s in the Premier League.
