Southampton striker Che Adams started for the club’s U23 side on Monday night as they lost 3-1 to Leicester’s kids.
Adams was an unused substitute against West Ham for the first-team at the weekend, so was given the opportunity to get some minutes under his belt for the academy side.
The forward, along with Romeu, got some valuable game time and was able to play in a competitive environment, even if it was only U23 level. He also capped it off with a goal, as he opened the scoring with a calm finish on the edge of the box.
Romeu played an excellent pass through to Adams, who was able to take the ball in and roll it into the corner past the on-rushing Leicester goalkeeper. Despite Leicester going on to win the game, Adams will hopefully be able to take some confidence from being able to get his name on the scoresheet.
This could make it a great decision from Ralph Hasenhuttl to send him to the U23’s to get some game time. Adams has failed to score for the first-team this season since his summer move from Birmingham and could have been lacking in confidence in front of goal recently.
His goal for the U23 side could help him improve his confidence in the first-team when faced with the chance to score in a Premier League game. If Hasenhuttl now decides to use Adams against Newcastle this weekend, he could be ready to perform and score his first league goal for the club if an opportunity comes his way in the match.
