Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong says that they were unlucky to lose to Burnley at the weekend.
Armstrong claims that Southampton pushed to get an equaliser in the last 20 minutes, but the ball would not break for them in the box.
Burnley held firm in the end to secure the win, with Matej Vydra’s 60th-minute goal proving decisive.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Armstrong said:
It’s difficult because in the last 20 minutes we are pushing and getting the ball into the box, but we just couldn’t seem to get that break or bounce.
We were a little bit unlucky in the end that it didn’t work out for us.

The weather conditions hardly helped Southampton’s plight, with the fierce winds affecting high balls and crosses into the box. This made it harder for Southampton’s wide men to deliver balls into the area as the wind made it more difficult to produce an accurate delivery.
Whilst you could say it was unlucky, as Armstrong does, you could also point to Southampton not creating enough chances throughout the match before going 2-1 down. They managed just one shot on target in the opening 70 minutes, which was Danny Ings’ strike from distance.
This shows that they did not do enough in possession of the ball over the course of the game to break Burnley down, who deserved to come away with the points, whilst the away side scored twice and managed six shots on target.
The Clarets managed to cope with the conditions and execute their gameplan, so there is little sympathy from me over Southampton’s performance.
