Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong says that he and his teammates are capable of much better than they showed against Burnley last weekend.
The Saints lost 2-1 to Burnley at St. Mary’s and were only able to muster up two shots on target throughout the match.
With Aston Villa coming to town this week, Armstrong says that Southampton are aiming for an improved performance against Dean Smith’s side.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Armstrong said:
We had a very good performance there previously and that’s something we are going to look to build on.
We know we can move the ball a lot better and produce a better performance.
We are aiming to do that next weekend.

Hopefully, as Armstrong says, Southampton can improve on their performance against Burnley and bounce back against Villa.
Southampton’s home form has been a huge concern this season, with the Saints having lost more games at home than any other side in the Premier League.
The Saints have lost eight of their 13 games so far at St. Mary’s in the league, highlighting their troubles on home soil. We fel this will need to improve if Southampton want to take the next step and progress into the top half of the table, as they are currently dropping too many points.
Armstrong says that Southampton need to move the ball better, which could help them against Aston Villa.
Last weekend, Villa looked open on the counter-attack and were leaving gaps at the back for Spurs forwards to exploit on the break. This suggests that Southampton could find similar joy if they are able to move the ball quickly and drive into space to create chances on the counter-attack to come away with the three points against Villa.
