READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
Scamacca has caught the eye with Ascoli this season and managed to rack up an impressive 11 goals in 17 starts across all competitions. The 21-year-old appears to have plenty of promise, given his goalscoring record at such a young age.
He is also an Italy under-21 international and has scored four goals in eight games for his country at that level. The forward has also represented Italy at six other age groups, scoring a combined 29 goals, including his under-21 exploits.
This suggests that he could have a fine career ahead of him, which could be why Southampton have been scouting him to see if he would be a good fit at St. Mary’s.
The Saints do already have some talented young strikers at the club, with Che Adams and Michael Obafemi both under-24.
However, it is good to see that Southampton are keeping an eye on talented prospects who could improve their squad, whilst also holding the potential for resale value in the future.
Scamacca could be a shrewd addition to Southampton if they bring him in, due to the promise he has shown in Italy with Ascoli and his national side.
