Cascarino feels Southampton concede too many goals in the Premier League

Former Celtic and Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino says that Southampton are on the right track but are still conceding too many goals.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Cascarino says that he is impressed with how they set up in games and feels they will be okay in regards to the relegation fight.

However, he still believes that Southampton are still letting in too many goals in games in the Premier League.

READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT

It is a valid concern when you consider that only Aston Villa have conceded more goals in the Premier League than Southampton. Villa have conceded 50, whilst Southampton and Norwich have both let in 48 after 26 league matches. This highlights how leaky Southampton’s defence has been this season and why it is an area in which they could look to improve in the summer.

Southampton’s defence have conceded 13 goals in their last six matches in all competitions, which shows that it has not improved of late. This means that Southampton could be looking at potential targets to improve their backline in the summer, if they want to stop the flow of goals heading in the wrong direction next season.

It will be interesting to see what Ralph Hasenhuttl does in the transfer market, with Kyle Walker-Peters set to head back to Spurs in the summer.

It will leave Yan Valery as the club’s only right-back, whilst Jan Bednarek, Jannik Vestergaard and Jack Stephens will be the only centre-backs in the mix. With that in mind, the club may want to consider adding to those positions, due to a lack of depth and quality, given the amount of goals that are being conceded.
