Southampton centre-back Jan Bednarek says that his club needs to be more relentless when they take the lead in games.
Bednarek says that Southampton still have time to analyse this topic and improve upon it, with 13 games left to go in the Premier League season.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Bednarek said:
I think it’s really difficult to play against us and we can cause many problems.
There is still a small bit to improve because when we take the lead, we need to still be relentless in the opposition’s box.
That’s something to improve and we still have the time to analyse that and get better.

Whilst, yes, Southampton could improve in an attacking sense when they take the lead, questions could also be asked of the defence. Only Aston Villa and Norwich (47) have conceded more goals in the Premier League than Southampton (46) this season. Whilst Southampton have scored more goals (31) than seven other Premier League teams.
This suggests that Southampton should be focussing more on improving their defence rather than their attack. If they can have a solid base to build on, taking the lead and not being able to add to it could be less of a concern as they could be able to defend their advantage better.
Conceding fewer goals in games would, obviously, mean Southampton need to score less goals in order to win, although you could also say the more goals they score the more they are able to let in. One way is less stressful than the other, though!
This is not to say that Southampton can’t also strengthen in attack, but the stats suggest that they should be looking at their own penalty area, rather than the likes of Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond in the opposition box.
