The agent of Southampton target Ozan Tufan, Utku Cenikli, has claimed that his client has a €20m release clause.

Cenikli has also revealed that Tufan wants to leave Fenerbahce but that wants the club to receive a good fee for his services, which is what his €20m release clause is designed to do.

Speaking to Turkish Football, Cenikli said:

Ozan has always wanted to play in Europe. He returned to Fenerbahce and felt he had a debt to pay.

He wants to leave the club as a player who made Fenerbahce a return. And he does have a €20m release clause which will be his way of giving back.

READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT

Fanatik reported earlier this season that both Southampton and Everton were interested in a deal for the central midfielder. Thierefore, this latest update could be a boost for the Saints if they decide to pursue him again in the summer transfer window.

They now know that if they want to sign the midfielder, they need to meet his release clause of €20m – which works out at roughly £16.6m. But, should they sign him?

The 24-year-old midfielder has recorded a WhoScored rating of 7.14 in the league for Fenerbahce this season, registering two goals and four assists.

This rating is higher than any Southampton player has managed in the Premier League, although they are – of course – different leagues so it is hard to compare. However, it does suggest that he has the potential to make the switch to England and have an impact for the Saints.

Tufan’s versatility could also come into play. The Turkish international has played in holding midfield, on the wing, attacking midfield and at right-back this season.

This means that he could offer cover, and quality, in several positions throughout Ralph Hasenhuttl’s squad, which could make him a useful player to have.

Would Tufan be a good signing?
