Former Southampton striker James Beattie has revealed that Che Adams made it clear to the club that he wanted to stay during the January transfer window.
Beattie says that he had some unrest throughout the month, but made the club aware that he wanted to remain at St. Mary’s and be a success in red and white.
The Daily Echo claim that Championship side Leeds pursued Adams during January, ultimately failing to lure the former Birmingham man back to the second tier.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Beattie said:
He had a little bit of unrest in the window and made it perfectly clear that he wanted to stay and make a career at Southampton. I think he is more than capable of doing that.

This is exactly the type of attitude you want to see from players at your club. Adams could have taken the easy option and tried to force a move back down to the Championship with Leeds. Instead, he decided to fight for his place and stay in the Premier League to prove that he can do it at this level.
With this attitude and determination, Adams is giving himself the best possible chance of succeeding. Even if he fails to eventually make the grade, at least he will know that he gave it his all and did not back down from the challenge at the first opportunity to do so, which is a credit to himself.
With Shane Long and Danny Ings currently ahead of him in the pecking order, Adams just needs to get his head down and work hard to take his chance when it comes. Judging by Beattie’s comments, Adams has the right mindset to do this and should be ready to grasp his opportunity when it comes his way.
