Southampton legend James Beattie has backed forward Che Adams to be a success at St. Mary’s.
Beattie says that the goals will come for Adams as soon as he starts to be more aggressive with his play for the Saints.
He claims that there are not many players who can stop Adams when he is on top of his game, which is why he needs to be aggressive and assertive in a Southampton shirt.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Beattie said:
I speak to Che on a regular basis and he just needs to remember his process, remember his training and to try and relax a little bit. The more you go after it, the more pensive you can become.
He’s been playing well because he’s been assisting. I still think he can be more aggressive because when he plays like that, there aren’t many who can handle him.
I think he could be more aggressive and then the goals will come because Che scores goals.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
On the evidence of Adams’ performances so far this season, there are not many defenders who have been unable to stop him. He has, so far, failed to score a single goal for the club in all competitions across 24 appearances – including substitute cameos.
The only contribution he has made this season is an assist against Leicester in a 2-1 win at the King Power, setting Danny Ings clear through on goal to score the winner last month.
However, if he is able to more aggressive in his play – as Beattie says – he could get more chances in front of goal. The harder he plays, the more pressure he puts on the opposition defence and the likelihood of him forcing a mistake increases.
Adams just needs to keep getting in the right positions in the box and hope that a chance will fall for him so that he can lift the weight off his shoulders. If he is able to notch his first goal the confidence could come back to him and help Adams to really kick on in a Southampton shirt.
