Southampton will reportedly allow defender Jannik Vestergaard to leave this window if they are able to make a profit on him.
According to The Daily Mail, Southampton will agree to sell him to Leicester if they offer more than the £18m they signed him for.
The report claims that Leicester are interested in the Danish international and had hoped to sign him for £15m, but Southampton are demanding at least more than £3m extra.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
The only concern I would have over this deal is whether or not Southampton would have the time to replace him. If Leicester do stump up the cash in the coming days, it would leave Southampton very little time before Friday’s deadline to bring another centre-back in.
Vestergaard is the third choice central defender behind Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek, but was called upon last week for the club’s clash with Crystal Palace. Bednarek missed out through injury and Vestergaard stepped up to help Southampton to a 2-0 win, with an impressive performance at centre-back. His aerial dominance helped to keep Palace at bay with their direct approach, showing how important he can be for the Saints.
If they could get a decent replacement in, selling Vestergaard for profit could be a good deal for the Saints. However, it remains to be seen as to whether Leicester will come back with an offer and whether Southampton could sign a replacement in time if he did leave.
