Southampton are reportedly in talks with Tottenham over a potential option to sign Kyle Walker-Peters on a permanent deal in the summer.
According to The Daily Mail, Southampton are confident of landing Walker-Peters on loan, but are still in talks with Spurs as they look to secure an option-to-buy for £12m at the end fo the season.
The report claims that Crystal Palace and West Ham are also interested in the England under-21 international, with Southampton currently the favourites for his signature.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
It was reported by the Daily Echo earlier this week that there would be no option to sign him permanently, but that appears to be about to change if Southampton are successful. Ralph Hasenhuttl clearly wants the chance to be able to keep him at the club in the long-term, if he impresses whilst on loan at St. Mary’s.
With Yan Valery and Cedric currently unavailable, it could be a great chance for Walker-Peters to come in and nail down his place in the side. If he is able to become a regular in the Premier League for Southampton and impress Hasenhuttl then £12m could prove to be a snip in the summer, if Southampton are able to agree a deal with Spurs of course.
At the age of 22, Walker-Peters has time to develop as a player. This means that – if they sign him permanently – Hasenhuttl can coach him and look to improve areas of his game going forward. All in all, it could prove to be a shrewd investment by the Saints if he is able to settle in and improve the starting XI at right-back.
