Danny Ings Deserves England Recall, Says Ex-Three Lions Striker

Southampton striker Danny Ings is enjoying the form of his life in the English Premier League, so far scoring 14 times for the saints. His last strike came away at Leicester when somehow Southampton avenged for their embarrassing 0-9 first leg defeat in the hands of the Foxes, winning 2-1 on the evening. Ings form has not gone unnoticed, and former Aston Villa and England international Darren Bent is sounding out Gareth Southgate to consider the in-form striker for an international call-up.

If you regularly bet on sports with Betway, you probably have witnessed how the statistics favor Danny Ings to be considered among the most in-form strikers in the league. As recently as late November, Southampton were staring at relegation, but the transformation of Ings has seen Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side move to the top ten for the first time in three seasons.

The former Liverpool striker started the year on a high, scoring the only goal of the game when Saints beat Jose Mourinho’s side 1-0 at St. Mary’s. He has been prolific for the Saints, prompting bookmakers like Betway to lower odds of Ings scoring on match days.

“He is arguably England’s most in-form striker. I understand there are others out there – Tammy Abraham has done well, Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy obviously has retired but there’s talk of him potentially coming back for the Euros. But right now, Danny Ings has got to be in the conversation.” Said Bent.

“What I like about Danny Ings is he’s not one of these strikers who when your team has won 4-0 or 5-0 you score the fourth and fifth goals, which doesn’t mean anything, they’re irrelevant. The hardest goal in football is the first ones, and Danny Ings always seems to score them.”

Timely claim

The Three Lions could potentially miss the services of Harry Kane who has missed the last three games with injury. Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho announced that he feared Kane could likely not be fit for the Euros, which is certainly a big blow to England. Kane is England’s captain and top scorer going into the continental tournament, and Southgate will be sweating over his fitness.

Another striker looking to miss out is Manchester United key man, Marcus Rashford. Rashford missed the Liverpool tie, and he’s been ruled out for approximately six weeks. That is only a tentative assumption, but he posted on his social media pages that he hoped to be back for his club and country in time for the Euros.

Another potential loss in the shape of Jamie Vardy is imminent. The Premier League’s top scorer was withdrawn in their 4-1 win over Westham on Wednesday, but his manager Brendan Rogers has eased the obvious fears saying he does not think it is a serious injury.

Ings time

Danny Ings has only one England cap under his belt, coming on as a late substitute for Harry Kane in the 2016 Euro qualifiers against Lithuania. He has made thirteen appearances for England U21 under Southgate, scoring four goals.

He seems to have put behind his injuries, and hitting form at this time should be good news for Gareth Southgate and England fans. Bet with Betway for Ings to score when Southampton face Spurs in the FA Cup on Saturday.
