West Ham submit £12m bid for Saints target Matty Cash

West Ham have reportedly submitted a £12m bid to sign Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash, amid interest from Southampton.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have placed an offer of £10m, with a further £2m in add-ons.

The Daily Mail report that Southampton are also interested in the English defender heading into the final week of the transfer window.

Cash has recorded a WhoScored rating of 7.27 in the Championship for Forest this season, scoring twice and assisting four goals. This is the highest rating for any fullback in the second tier this season and sees him ranked 12th overall for all positions. This suggests that he could have a chance of making the step up to the Premier League, as he is already one of the top-performing players in the Championship.

At 22, Cash is also still very young and has plenty of time to progress as a player and improve. Ralph Hasenhuttl could coach him into his system and get him to offer an attacking outlet down the right for the Saints, with his six goal contributions for Forest this season.

With Cedric and Yan Valery both currently out, Cash could be a shrewd signing for the Saints if they are able to beat West Ham to his signature. This is because of the points raised above, as well as Southampton’s need for a right-back at this moment in time.
