It is claimed that Southampton view him as a valuable member of the squad heading into the second-half of the Premier League season.

If Southampton are keen to keep Vestergaard at the club, they should be demanding to make a profit on him – as they reportedly are. The Saints paid Borussia Monchengladbach £18m to sign the centre-back, which is why The Echo are reporting that they want more than that to allow him to go to Leicester before the end of the transfer window.
Vestergaard started against Crystal Palace on Tuesday and helped his side keep a clean sheet and pick up the three points. He started after the injury to Jan Bednarek, showing that he is needed in the squad. It proved that Southampton are just one injury away from needing him in the starting XI, which is why he could be an important player for Ralph Hasenhuttl going forward.
He also recorded a WhoScored rating of 7.09 against Palace, showing that he can also produce quality performances at centre-back. This makes him a reliable back-up to Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek, which is positive for the team as it means that Hasenhuttl can rotate knowing that the players coming in are able to do a job.
