Leeds United approach alternative Che Adams options

The Athletic’s Phil Hay is the go-to man when it comes to all things Leeds United, and the reliable reporter shared an interesting update regarding the Whites’ pursuit of Southampton forward Che Adams on Tuesday afternoon.

Hay went live on The Athletic for a Q&A, and as expected, one of the main topics he was quizzed on was Adams.

When asked about the club’s pursuit of Adams, Hay revealed that Marcelo Bielsa felt that the Saints striker would be the best fit at Elland Road.

However, Hay also claimed that the Whites have now been approaching other targets since the weekend as they look to add to their attacking ranks.

Leeds know they need one, Bielsa is telling them they need one but he was very keen on Adams.

When he did the analysis on the options put to him, Adams was the one who looked like the best fit, which is why Leeds have been going after him. But they’ve been approaching other options since the weekend which tells you that they don’t want to leave their eggs in one basket.

The latest update, in our opinion, is a great piece of news for Southampton.

Leeds desperately need a new forward over the coming weeks, and in our view, can’t be hanging around for long in regards to a deal for Adams, therefore explaining their latest movements approaching other options.

There were reports over the weekend that the Saints board are open to moving Adams on, however, the same report claimed Ralph Hasenhuttl was thought to be keen on keeping hold of the 23-year-old.

If the club do grant Hasenhuttl his wish, it will certainly please the Austrian, and a happy manager can only be good news at St Mary’s.

He’s guided the club on a five-game unbeaten run in the top flight, and we feel that if the Saints were to go against Hasenhuttl’s wishes, things could have turned sour on the south coast.

However, with Leeds now seemingly approaching other targets, we feel as if Adams has a greater chance of staying at the club, and hopefully, over the coming weeks, he’ll end his 646-minute wait for a goal in the Premier League.
