Southampton are set to miss out on a move for Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, with the defender set to make the move to Bundesliga side Schalke, as per Bild.
The Saints had been linked with a switch for the Frenchman, who hadn’t decided over where he wanted to move to at the time.

However, he has now decided on his future, with the player arriving at Dusseldorf Airport to complete his move to the Bundesliga side, as per Bild.
The report states that there is not yet a purchase agreement signed, but Schalke would like to put one in the deal.
Todibo had reportedly been unsure about moving to a club with an option to buy, as per previous reports via Mundo Deportivo.

The Saints had been looking for a new central defender, especially with the third-worst defensive record in the division behind Norwich and Aston Villa, as per the Premier League’s official website.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted that he needs defensive recruits, via Sky Sports, and Todibo would certainly fit the bill for the Saints providing them with great tackling ability, as per Whoscored.
However, with the player set to join Schalke, it looks like Southampton will have to look elsewhere for defensive recruits.
With only two appearances in La Liga this season, via Whoscored, he also was very much out of the first-team at Barca, meaning he would not really have the experience required to go straight into the first-team at Saints.
