Marcus Barnes returns to Saints after loan spell with Eastleigh

Southampton striker Marcus Barnes has returned to the Premier League club following his loan spell with National League side Eastleigh after suffering an injury, as reported on the Daily Echo.

The 23-year-old scored twice in the league and twice in the FA Cup for Eastleigh during his four-month loan spell.

The youngster helped Eastleigh earn a shock FA Cup replay against League Two side Crewe Alexandra and was also in the headlines for a stunning strike against Torquay United.

The report states that Barnes has picked up an injury in training and as a result, he has returned to the south coast.

Barnes was delighted to make the loan switch to Eastleigh and showed glimpses of brilliance for them since the start of the season. He never really hit prolific form, but he scored some hugely important goals.

However, the Southampton man, who made his senior Saints debut against Derby County last year, now needs to focus on recovering and getting back onto the pitch.

The attacker has mainly featured for the Saints’ Under-23 side but has spoken of his desire to break into the first-team, which seems highly unlikely at the moment because Ralph Hasenhuttl is currently blessed with plenty of options up front.

Barnes should consider making a permanent move away and building a career elsewhere, rather than scattered loan moves because they don’t allow him to settle down.
