Southampton progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a relatively comfortable 2-0 win over Championship outfit Huddersfield.
Goals from academy products Will Smallbone and Jake Vokins ensured Southampton extended their unbeaten run to five games in all competitions, with Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men winning four of those matches.
Shane Long thought he had opened the scoring in the first-half and given Smallbone his first assist for the senior side, after the 19-year-old played him through.
However VAR ruled Long’s foot to be in an offside position and the goal was ruled out.
Smallbone turned from provider to scorer in the second-half however with a goal that did stand, with the roles reversing this time around as Long set the 19-year-old up.
Vokins doubled the lead after his effort deflected off a Huddersfield defender and the underside of the crossbar to put the result beyond doubt and send Saints through to the fourth round.
Here’s how we rated Saints’ performance.
