Ralph Hasenhuttl believes Danny Ings would be worthy of an England call-up in the near future.
The striker has been in exceptional form for Southampton despite the team’s struggles this season, and it seems he could play his way into the thinking of national team boss Gareth Southgate.
Ings netted in five consecutive Premier League matches before he was desperately unlucky to draw a blank against West Ham, and Hasenhuttl tipped his forward to work his way into the England setup.
As quoted by The Daily Echo, the boss said:
I don’t think I have to tell Gareth what to do. He has a very good view of all his players I think. Ingsy is a fantastic character and has a winning mentality.

When he stays fit like this and scores like this it’s the best thing you can do as a striker, is to make it as difficult as possible for the manager. It’s good to maybe have him as an alternative.
He’s having a fantastic run at the moment and we have fantastic strikers in England; Vardy and Kane all have fantastic quality.
But I’m very happy he shows up like this. He’s a very important player for our team at the moment.
Read Southampton’s verdict
Ings could benefit from Jamie Vardy’s decision to retire from international football. Harry Kane and Tammy Abraham have been brilliant this season, but no other English forward has impressed in quite the manner that the 27-year-old has.
It’s also worth mentioning that every week, Ings feeds off scraps, and he has been the only real positive in a dismal season for Southampton.
His progress has been fantastic, and he is clearly Saints’ best player. There is no reason why he wouldn’t be under consideration from Southgate.
