Saints reportedly ready to demand big money for Forster

Fraser Forster has been in excellent form for Celtic this season and Southampton are looking to capitalise by selling him on for a profit, according to Football Insider.

The experienced goalkeeper returned to Scotland on the final day of the summer transfer window and has since been pivotal to Neil Lennon’s plans.

Forster stole the show with an outstanding display in the Betfred Cup final against Rangers on Sunday, with Football Insider now reporting that Southampton are growing increasingly confident about their chances of selling him for big money.

Saints are, as per the report, of the belief that they could have an asset worth around £25 million on their hands following the 31-year-old’s resurgence.

This demand could prove to be too great for Celtic, should they wish to pursue a permanent deal. Forster’s weekly wages of £70,000 are also understood to be somewhat out of the Scottish champions’ usual structure.

In a market that promotes exorbitant transfer fees, stranger things have happened than Saints receiving a substantial sum for Forster despite his struggles in recent years.

However, it hardly seems likely that the club will make anywhere near the touted £25 million figure, especially given the goalkeeper’s age and history of injuries.

It’s important for the here and now that Forster continues to build himself back up at Celtic following a difficult spell at St Mary’s.
