Southampton are considering a move for QPR star Ryan Manning in the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.
The 23-year-old has operated as a left-back in recent times having previously played further forward in midfield.
Manning sees his current contract at Loftus Road expire in the summer, indicating that there is a chance of him departing in January for a cut-price fee.
However, QPR do reportedly have the option to extend his stay by a further year, with the former Galway United man seemingly attracting interest from Southampton ahead of the winter transfer window.

Manning has been impressive for QPR this season and has provided them not only with a reliable defensive option but a dangerous attacking outlet down the left.
At 23, he is ready for the next step and could be keen to test himself in the Premier League for the first time in his career.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has struggled to find the perfect player on the left-hand side of his defence this season. Ryan Bertrand has rotated with Kevin Danso, Moussa Djenepo, Cedric Soares and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as a full-back and wing-back.
Manning appears to be well-suited to both roles; he is good going forward and has created more chances than any other QPR player this term. Also, he has contributed with the most assists for Mark Warburton’s men.

Reinforcing the left-back position would certainly be a wise move for Saints in January. Bertrand may be a reliable option, but he is approaching the twilight of his career, and Jake Vokins does not yet appear ready to step up and act as a replacement for Matt Targett.
Southampton are thought to be keen to sign players who are younger than 24 for inexpensive transfer fees. With Manning’s contractual situation, strong start to the season, age and versatility considered, this would be a sensible acquisition.
