The Saints ran out 4-0 winners in the South Coast Derby, as their quality shone through against League One Portsmouth.
It was a frantic start to the game, with Portsmouth dominating the early exchanges, making it difficult for the Saints to get into the game. Pompey had many chances, but they failed to convert any of these. However, the Saints started to grow into the game as Ings struck to give them the lead.
Southampton began to dominate play, but Pompey were always a threat on the attack. Ings then finished nicely to bag his second of the night and give the visitors a two-goal advantage over their bitter rivals.
The game died down in the early stages of the second half, with the Saints taking the sting out of the Portsmouth charge.
Hasenhuttl’s men then finished the tie off, with goals from Cedric and Redmond, sending them into the next round of the cup, and securing the win in the Derby.
Today, I will be looking at three standout performers in Southampton’s impressive win at Fratton Park.

The Three Stars
Danny Ings – What a day it was for Ings. Two goals and an assist topped off an immense performance. You could see how much it meant to him, and that was reflected in his stellar display.

Cedric – Another solid performance from Cedric. He was quality in defence, and picked up a goal towards the end of the game. Made some really good attacking runs and delivered some excellent crosses.
Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg – A great leader on the pitch for Southampton yesterday, in what was a incredibly difficult game. He was solid in midfield as his leadership qualities shone through.
