Danny Ings showed up to Fratton Park last night to make an impact and that’s exactly what he did, scoring the first two goals as Southampton romped to a 4-0 win over Portsmouth.
The triumph is the Saints’ biggest ever in the south coast derby as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s electric side booked their place in the Carabao Cup Fourth Round.
It’s Ings’ performance that threatened to steal the headlines though and plenty of supporters are praising him through the roof on social media…

Read Southampton’s verdict
Albeit against lower league opposition, it could very well have been Ings’ best performance in a Southampton shirt at Portsmouth.
The way he took both goals was sublime and he’s now really knocking on the door to replace Che Adams in Hasenhuttl’s starting line-up against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
As for the Carabao Cup, fans will be starting to dream of a repeat of the club’s run in 2016-17 where they narrowly missed out on the gold against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.
If Colchester United have genuinely just beaten Champions League Finalists Spurs… anything is on the cards.
