Southampton will look to go three games unbeaten in the Premier League when they travel to Sheffield United on Saturday, despite not having won at Bramall Lane since 2007.
Saints return from the international break with a prime opportunity to build on their good current form but will face a stern test against the top-flight newcomers.
Both teams will be confident going into this game after achieving positive results against top sides last time out. Sheffield United came back to secure a memorable 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, whilst Southampton held Manchester United to a score draw at St Mary’s.
The Blades have already shown positive signs of providing competition at the highest level, having lost just one of their opening four games in what has been a decent start to their campaign.
Saints, on the other hand, have picked themselves up after a tricky start to the season.
So, with things starting to look up, can they secure another bright result on their travels?
I have taken a look at the Key Battles ahead of this weekend’s trip to Sheffield United.
O'Connell v Adams
Che Adams is yet to register a shot on target in the Premier League, but he could find his feet against a side he is familiar with, having faced them last season when playing for Birmingham City.
Could he bag his first top-flight goal and fire Saints to victory on Saturday? If so, he’ll need to get the better of Blades centre-back Jack O’Connell.
McBurnie v Vestergaard
In recent games, Oli McBurnie has come off the bench as a super-sub for Sheffield United.
His aerial presence and strength can cause opponents difficulties when trying to mark him, so who better than Jannik Vestergaard to keep an eye on him?
The great Dane scored his first goal for Saints against Manchester United last time out and will look to maintain his impressive displays.
Norwood v Romeu
Oliver Norwood can be the player that the Blades look to for creativity. He got a handful of assists last season and will hope to play a similar role this time around.
Oriol Romeu could have the task of keeping him quiet and given the form that he’s in, this is more than achievable.
Basham v Boufal
Sofiane Boufal is a player who Saints will need on top form come Saturday.
The skilful Moroccan is likely to start again in the absence of the injured Nathan Redmond, who is set for a short spell on the sidelines.
In his attacking role, he could give Chris Basham a run for his money, but with his ability to switch sides as the game goes on, he could be a pivotal part of the Saints line-up.
Robinson v Valery
Callum Robinson is another attacker who can cause defences problems. He scored and created both of his side’s goals against Chelsea, so could be one of United’s main outlets.
Robinson likes to drift out wide. Therefore, Yan Valery will be kept on his toes. It should be a good contest between the two of them.
