David Moyes has admitted he was given the opportunity to have managed Southampton, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday earlier in his career during an interview with The Coaches Voice.
This was around when Moyes was bursting onto the managerial scene, with Everton eventually winning the races to secure his services.
Saints, Wednesday and Forest were all apparently interested in Moyes taking over the reins at their respective clubs.
At the time, this could have been a sensible decision to give a relatively promising manager a go in the Premier League.
However, looking back on this, it was a good decision for Moyes to go to Everton, where he enjoyed plenty of success.

Moyes has failed in most of his managerial jobs since, especially during his time at Manchester United, where he led them to a 7th place finish in his only season at the Red Devils.
It was one of the most disappointing seasons United fans had witnessed in years. He was then unable to save Sunderland from the drop in 2017 and had an unsuccessful spell at Real Sociedad in the La Liga in 2016.
He was relatively successful at West Ham, managing to keep them in the league, but again was eventually sacked. It really was the best decision Moyes didn’t join Saints.
Especially with the managers that were to arrive on the south coast in the following years, most notably Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman, two mangers that brought success to Saints.
Looking back now, not appointing Moyes was a blessing in disguise, although it may have seemed a good move at the time. If Moyes did take over at St Mary’s, it could have been a very different outcome, and the Saints may not be in the place they are today.
