Southampton extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to three games after a hard-earned and well-deserved point at home to Manchester United.
Saints first fought from a goal down, and then battled with 10 men in order to secure the point against the visitors. Despite a strong opening, which saw Sofiane Boufal flash a shot just wide of David de Gea’s goal, United took the lead at St Mary’s thanks to a fantastic finish from Daniel James in the 10th minute.
In truth, after the goal, the hosts lost their way in the game and took until the second half to find their rhythm. However, like the trend that we have seen in recent weeks and matches, Saints started the second half in an exceptional manner, dominating the possession and creating some dangerous situations, which included a half-chance for Che Admas.
In the 58th minute, Danny Ings had his header from a James Ward-Prowse corner expertly saved by De Gea before the ball fell to Kevin Danso, who floated a delicious ball in for Jannik Vestergaard to head home the equaliser.
When it looked like Saints were in the ascendency, Danso himself received a second yellow and a red card for a needless challenge on Scott McTominay, which saw Saints go from looking like the likely winners to fighting for the point.
All in all, it was a successful day at the office for Ralph Hasenhuttl and his men as they now go into the international break unbeaten in their last three.
Here are the Four Findings we can take away from the draw with Manchester United.
