Southampton progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday with a 1-0 win away at Fulham.
Michael Obafemi scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute after a low cross from Nathan Redmond found the youngster unmarked at the back post.
Both sides made multiple changes coming into the tie. Fulham made nine changes from their defeat at home to Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Saints, meanwhile, made fiver alterations, with first starts of the season for Alex McCarthy, Cedric Soares, Sofiane Boufal, Moussa Djenepo, and Micheal Obafemi.
Fulham dominated the first half and wasted some golden chances to take the lead in the tie – the best of the bunch falling to Cyrus Christie, who put his free header straight at Alex McCarthy.

Saints came out in the second half, executing the high press more aggressively and efficiently, which presented a glorious chance for Oriol Romeu to open the scoring, only for the Spaniard to have his shot saved.
After replacing Obafemi, Danny Ings also had two one-on-one chances to double the lead at Craven Cottage but failed to make the most of the opportunities that came his way.
All in all, the trip was a successful one for Saints as they recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in the new season ahead of the visit of Manchester United at the weekend.
Here are four things that we can take away from the Carabao Cup tie.
