Southampton have reportedly made contact with Scottish Championship side Dundee United over a move for 17-year-old Scott Banks, who is also subject of a bid from Crystal Palace.
According to the Daily Record, Saints have made initial contact with United and will send scouts to watch the teenager in their opening game of the Scottish Championship season on Saturday.
However, the report suggests that Palace have made a bid of £400,000 for the 17-year-old, while Manchester City and Leeds United have also both sent scouts to watch the winger in recent weeks
So will Saints be able to fight off the competition in the race for the teenager?

Saints are well known for placing a big emphasis on youth development and a move to St Mary’s will therefore no doubt be appealing for Banks.
The winger would certainly have the tools to flourish on the South Coast given Saints’ history on bringing youth players through, and playing under a manager in Ralph Hasenhuttl who shares the same passion.
However, the Austrian may become powerless should Premier League champions City come knocking.
