Aston Villa are reportedly interested in another Southampton player, this time it is Jack Stephens, according to the Daily Mirror, as cited by HITC.
This would make it the second Southampton defender that Villa have been interested in this summer, since confirming the signing of left-back Matt Targett for a deal worth around £15 million.
Now Villa desperately need a centre-back and believe that Stephens could be the perfect fit to their Premier League campaign for the coming season.
Stephens joined Southampton back in 2011 from Plymouth Argyle and since then has struggled to make a name for himself at the club.
He was sent on loan between 2014 and 2016, then played a part in the 2016/17 Premier League campaign for the Saints.
Last season Stephens accumulated 24 appearances in the league. He has never been one of the club’s first-choice defenders, but he has been a reliable option for cover over the last few years.
Stephens still has over three years left on his contract so Villa will know that he will not be a cheap option, however, they want to add players with a bit of Premier League experience after both Axel Tuanzebe and Tyrone Mings left the club following their loan deals last season.
