Southampton will face stiff competition from Sassuolo for the signing of David Okereke, according to Corriere dello Sport, via Inside Futbol.
The Nigerian impressed in Serie B with Spezia last season, with Saints one of several clubs monitoring his progress.
Fellow Premier League duo West Ham and Crystal Palace have shown interest, as well as a number of Serie A sides.
Okereke, a 21-year-old forward, is now the subject of strong interest from Sassuolo, who could be Southampton’s greatest rival when it comes to signing him.
The race to sign Okereke has now “gathered substantial pace”, with a conclusion to the saga not thought to be far away.
The youngster scored 10 goals and also chipped in with 12 assists last season, as Spezia finished sixth in Serie B.
His current contract expires in the summer of 2022, meaning a healthy fee will likely to required to prise him away this summer.
