Southampton steered five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.
Pierre Emile Hojbjerg latched onto Nathan Redmond’s pinpoint pass and poked past Mat Ryan early in the second half to guide the Saints to back-to-back wins.
Anything other than three points would have seen Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side slip down to 17th following Burnley’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but now both teams are five points ahead of Cardiff City in 18th.
The Bluebirds will now feel the pressure to get something against Chelsea at the Cardiff City Stadium this afternoon; if Neil Warnock’s men fail to cause an upset it’ll guarantee Southampton a further week of safety.
Following the huge win at the AMEX Stadium, we asked you to vote for your Man of the Match.
Hojbjerg, Redmond and Jan Bednarek were stand-out performers for many, but who did you vote as the top five performers?
