Southampton right-back Yan Valery has described his stunning long-range goal against Manchester United as “mad”, as reported on the Daily Echo.
The youngster opened the scoring with a blistering strike from outside the box, leaving United goalkeeper David De Gea with no chance of saving it.

The Saints went on to lose the match 3-2 at Old Trafford but will take plenty of positives from the defeat.
When looking back at his goal, Valery said:
Charlie [Austin] and [Nathan] Redmond are always telling me to shoot and cross when I have the chance to. Sometimes it’s one-on-one, but sometimes I have to shoot. I thought about it and just did it.
I think the last time I did it was in training for the U23s which was a very long time ago.
It’s mad and to do it at Old Trafford as well. I really hoped we would have had at least one point. It was good to score, but I would have preferred it if we won.
Valery has cemented his starting position since the arrival of Ralph Hasenhuttl as manager.
