Portugal defender Cedric Soares appears to be at a crossroad.
The 27-year-old, currently on a one-year loan at Inter Milan from Southampton, could return to England in the summer.
The Nerazzurri had the option to purchase the defender outright for £9m, however, according to Italian media outlet Tuttosport, the potential deal could be off.
Cedric was snapped as a backup for injured Sime Vrsalijko but the Portuguese have failed to fill the Croatian’s void.
He’s featured just five times in all competitions since his move to the San Siro last summer.
Instead of the 27-year-old, Luciano Spalleti is reportedly considering Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian.
Darmian is frustrated with life at Old Trafford and a bid in the region of £10m could trigger United to do business.
If that happens, then Cedric will be left with no option but head back to St Mary’s.
That could ultimately spell doom for the Portuguese as he is no longer in the plans of new Saint boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The ex-RB Leipzig trainer favours Yan Valery, who replaced Cedric in the starting XI.
The youngster has made the right-back his position, scoring a stunning goal in the 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.
Cedric’s rapid fall from grace could hurt his chances with Portugal at next year’s European Championship.
The 27-year-old was a crucial part of that triumphant side that conquered Europe in 2016. However, several odds coming from omegatipsters on which fans can bet about Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Known for his attacking instincts and ability and desire to bomb forward from full-back, Cedric is often criticised for neglecting his defensive duties in favour of attacking.
During his early days at Sporting, he was but it’s an area where he has improved dramatically in recent times, honing his craft as a modern all-around full-back.
