Southampton suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, as Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side put in a brave display at Old Trafford.
Saints took an early lead thanks to a brilliant strike from Jann Valery, who stunned the United crowd from 25 yards, before two quick fire goals from Andreas Pereira and Romelu Lukaku gave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side the lead in the second half.
James Ward-Prowse equalised with a superbly taken free-kick with 15 minutes remaining before Lukaku grabbed his second goal of the game with two minutes to go, to deny Saints a precious point.
Paul Pogba had the chance to make it 4-2 from the penalty spot late on, but Angus Gunn produced the save.
Hasenhuttl’s side remain just two points above Cardiff in the relegation zone, after their 2-0 defeat away to Wolves, and face a tricky test against Tottenham next in the league.
Here’s how we rated Saint’s performance at Old Trafford.
