Southampton midfielder Callum Slattery revealed he felt “proud” after making his full Premier League debut against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Slattery played the full 90 minutes on his first start in the league but believes it was a “bittersweet” feeling following Burnley’s last gasp equaliser.
Saints extended their unbeaten run to five league games following the draw and looked set to add a win to that run after Nathan Redmond gave Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side the lead with a brilliant goal early in the second half, but Ashley Barnes’ last-minute penalty ensured the spoils were shared at Turf Moor.
Slattery, however, focused on the positives from his Premier League debut and told the club’s official website he was happy with his performance.

I’m very pleased. It’s a proud day to get a full 90 in the Premier League and a first start, so it’s a great feeling, but it’s bittersweet not to come away with three points. I thought I did well – I got stuck in and I wasn’t in fear of the crowd or the game. It’s a tough place to come, but I thought I did well in the game.
Slattery had limited opportunities in the first team prior to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s arrival but has since been in and amongst the squad.
And the midfielder revealed he is thoroughly enjoying being in the first team setup.
I’m loving it. We’re learning every day under the manager, and from being in and around the first-team boys. Hopefully we can keep kicking on.
Southampton have one of their biggest games of the season up next when they host Cardiff in the league, knowing a victory would move them five points clear of the relegation zone.
