Southampton battled past Everton at St Mary’s with James Ward-Prowse and an own goal from Lucas Digne securing all three points.
A late reply from Gylfi Sigurdsson set up a nervy 8 minutes of injury time, but they once again proved their grit and determination when it matters most.
A result which takes Southampton 3 points clear of relegation, new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has transformed the side into an exciting outfit, which can dig out key results like this, climbing up to 15th place in the Premier League.
The return of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Danny Ings was a boost for Southampton. Whilst Ralph Hasenhuttl decided to bring back players he left out in the FA Cup defeat to Derby in midweek.
Back to back wins for Southampton, and for the second time under the new regime, and a positive performance to go along with that.
Here is how we rated those performances…
Alex McCarthy - 7
Made a fantastic save from Gylfi Sigurdsonn to keep the scores level just minutes before James Ward-Prowse broke the deadlock. Did enough in the latter stages to clear a number of crosses, solid performance.
Yan Valery - 6
A mature performance from Valery. Had little trouble defending but did not venture forward as much as he would have liked. Dealt with the threat of Bernard well.
Jan Bednarek - 8
Another monumental performance from Bednarek, defensively superb, giving Everton nothing. Played a fantastic pass to Danny Ings which was a sign of a truly confident player.
Jack Stephens - 6
Part of that cohesive, defensive unit. Did well to mop up any loose balls and distributed it nicely. Went on a mazy run which got the fans of their feet.
Jannik Vestegaard - 7
Another defender who is profiting from being coached by Hasenhuttl. The mistake at Cardiff is long in the memory, a titan in the air, beginning to find his passing range too.
Matt Targett - 5
Had very little effect on the pitch before being forced off just 35 minutes in. Injured making a challenge he shouldn’t have had to make.
James Ward-Prowse - 9
Man of the match. Worked tirelessly all game and scored a goal Steven Gerrard would be proud of. Constantly got into threatening positions and is seemingly relishing his time under Hasenhuttl
Oriol Romeu - 7
Romeu did what Romeu does. Broke up play, got in players faces and made it hard for Everton to work space in the middle. Finally seemed to have lost his rust after time out under Hughes.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 6
Nothing flash. Worked hard and kept the ball ticking over, eased his way back into action after his suspension. More to come than this performance but a job well done.
Nathan Redmond - 7
Forced the issue for the second goal, a constant threat and oozing confidence despite that midweek penalty miss. Not quite the Henry we expected but effective up top with Ings
Danny Ings - 7
Another who eased their way back into action. Made life easier for others as he pressed high up the pitch and dropped deep to pick up the ball, but scoring was never really on the cards.
(Sub) Cedric Soares - 6
Never looks truly comfortable on the left, but managed to keep whichever winger he faced quiet.
(Sub) Shane Long - 6
An asset to have when defending a lead. Replaced Ings with 15 to go and worked hard to keep it at 2-1 and be a nuisance to the Everton defence.
(Sub) - Stuart Armstrong - 6
Played eight minutes more than he expected to, did his part in defending the lead in injury time.
