Southampton defender Matt Targett has spoken to say that he is really impressed with how new boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Daily Echo reports.
With Ryan Bertrand currently out injured, Targett has grabbed the opportunity to play regular football in his absence since the arrival of Hasenhuttl and he has certainly impressed.
The Saints have been in much better form in recent weeks and will hope to continue their good run by coming through against Frank Lampard’s Derby County on Wednesday night in their FA Cup third round replay at St Mary’s. Southampton drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture at Pride Park Stadium.
The 23-year-old defender praised the impact which the Austrian has had on the team, describing him as ‘perfect’.
Targett said:
He sets us up well and it is nice when we have a full week of training.
He is putting a lot of ideas in our head about defending with, and without, the ball. It’s nice to have a full week of training leading into a game.
He is a big presence, and to be fair, he has come in and set his demands straight away from all of us about what he wants.
He is very demanding, which is perfect because it’s exactly what we need.
Targett is expected to continue as Saints’ first choice left-back whilst Ryan Bertrand continues to recover from a back operation that required a minor operation he had done last month.
