Southampton are considering a recall for Burton loanee Jake Hesketh, the Mirror reports.
Hesketh helped Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion side into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, though the youngster’s loan deal expires before the fixture in January.
Burton are worried that Hesketh’s good form means they may not be able to keep Hesketh until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old has featured twice for the Southampton first team and has spoke of the possibility of returning to the Saints in January.
Everyone’s aim is to play in the Premier League and that is my goal too. Every game like this when you play a top Championship side will help me.
It’s nice to know they are watching because as much as I want to impress people here and prove myself to everyone, the people at Southampton are the people I probably want to impress the most.
That’s the team I ultimately want to get into.
Whenever the time comes that I go back, I want to impress the new manager and put a case forward to be in his team.

Hesketh went on to say that he knew Burton could beat Middlesbrough.
Weirdly we were quietly confident before the game. We always back ourselves to get a few chances and we knew we would here.
We flew out the traps in the second half and could have been two or three up which would have made it easier.
Burton have only been in the top leagues for nine years, so this is an unbelievable achievement. To get to the semis is a dream and everyone is over the moon.
Any draw will be a massive game for us. I’d love to get Manchester City, because it would mean testing ourselves against the very best. They have got a few good players, haven’t they?
