Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard hopes to be given a fresh start under new manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.
The Denmark international has struggled for consistent game time since signing from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer, featuring just eight times this season.

But with Hasenhüttl having taken his first training session on Friday, Vestergaard hopes the impressive coach will give him his chance to impress. As quoted by the Daily Echo, Vestergaard said:
You want to leave an impression and show the best side of yourself.
It’s a new start for everyone. He comes in with an open mind and even will start from zero.
I don’t think this is just for me, I think everyone is now at the same level and needs to show themselves.
This isn’t a good situation at the moment and no one is happy, but it is a good opportunity to start over.
Vestergaard has been largely kept out of the Saints team by fellow centre-backs Wesley Hoedt, Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida. Instead of being deterred though, Vestergaard believes this can only benefit the club in the long run. He continued:
This is a very competitive league and a very competitive team.
We have a lot of good centre-backs who are fighting for two spots and obviously, everyone wants to play every game.
I’m not happy with that, but I know I still have to show who I really am and what I can give to this team.
