Former Southampton striker Marian Pahars has been discussing his ambition to one day become the club’s manager.
In an exclusive interview with the Independent, the Latvian spoke about a range of topics and was quizzed about the prospect of him arriving in the United Kingdom once again as a boss.
Pahars enjoyed a successful spell at Southampton and remains a fans’ favourite at St Mary’s Stadium.
The 42-year-old joined the Saints in 1999 from Latvian side Skonto before emerging as something of a cult hero at the Dell, as he went on to spend seven years on the south coast.

Pahars is currently managing in his homeland and is the first-team boss of FK Jelgava.
However, the former Southampton star admitted that he would welcome the prospect of a return to English football in the not so distant future, with the aspiration of managing the Saints clearly among his long-term targets. Pahars said:
One day if I can ever come back to Southampton, I would do everything to be successful there. The only thing is it’s not so easy to get to the club where you were a cult hero.
If I ever had a chance to manage in the UK, even in a lower league team, I would take this option with confidence and satisfaction, definitely.
