The Football Association have identified former Southampton chief Les Reed as a potential option as they go in search of a new technical director.
According to a report from Sky Sports, the FA have narrowed their shortlist of potential candidates for the vacant role down to four, with the former Charlton Athletic manager among those under consideration.
The technical director post will be left unoccupied in March when Dan Ashworth officially joins Brighton and Hove Albion. It’s claimed by Sky Sports that the FA are determined to have secured a new man before Christmas comes around.
Reed’s dismissal from St Mary’s Stadium was confirmed earlier on in November as Southampton’s hierarchy opted to oversee a restructuring of the board.

The 65-year-old spent eight years at Southampton but was given his marching orders following the club’s recent demise.
Nevertheless, it seems Reed may have the opportunity to return to the FA 14 years after his departure in 2004, with the role of technical director once again presenting itself to potential candidates.
The other options under consideration are reported to be Wolves’ Kevin Thelwell, former Rangers manager Mark Warburton and the FA’s existing head of development Matt Crocker.
