Southampton have held talks with Paulo Sousa about replacing Mark Hughes as the club’s manager, according to a report from Matt Hughes of The Times.
The former Portuguese international, who won the Champions League as a player whilst at Juventus, has previous experience of managing in England.
Sousa’s spell at QPR, his first job in manager, did not go so well and he ended up being sacked as the club claimed he had divulged sensitive information without permission from the hierarchy.
He took over at Swansea City following Roberto Martínez’s departure to Wigan Athletic and led the Swans to their highest league finish for 27 years as they finished just outside the Championship play-offs.
The former Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan star then took over at Leicester City, but after less than three months in charge, he was sacked after a poor start to the season, with The Foxes having won only one of his first nine league games.
Sousa has since had spells at Hungarian side Videoton FC, Maccabi Tel Aviv where he won the Israeli league title, FC Basel, where he won the Swiss title and finally Fiorentina.
After the club’s poor start to the season, the Saints board have begun looking at possible replacements if they sack Mark Hughes and it looks like Sousa could be the man they make a move for.
